Competition: Design the first TF tshirt.

Picture This, You are walking down the street and you see some kid wearing a T-Shirt that YOU designed! Thats right, we are holding our very first T-Shirt competition and everyone is invited to take part.



About The Competition ( The Brief )
Teen Forums wants some great looking T-Shirts for staff members to be given out to the top Staff Members and for regular members to buy ( dirt cheap, we can assure you! ;) ).

With each tshirt sold we will give away a free 6 Month TF Premium membership.

We require a design for the Front AND back of the T-Shirt however the design does not have to be made on the layour of a T-Shirt, feel free to submit ANY designs as long as you also submit a description of where things would be placed on the T-Shirt.

Feel free to add to go wild with your designs people as you can put on whatever you like as long at it appeals to Teens today. - The only thing we do require is that the Teen Forums URL, TeenageForums.com (http://www.TeenageForums.com), is included or space for it is left and detailed in the description.

Do not worry if your design does not appear as high quality as some of the other members, the Final Design will be brushed up by the Graphics Team here anyway before we go to printing. - This means even if you only have paint or have never done any graphics design before then you can still enter and win!

This competition opens on November 15th, 2005 and closes on midnight, April 1st.
Only Teen Forums members may enter the competition.
Each member may enter as many individual designs as he or she likes.
We will only consider entries that are submitted as per these guidelines, and those outlined in the design brief.

Entrants automatically grant Teen Forums the rights to reproduce their design on t-shirts for the purposes of promoting the Teen Forums community.

To keep the t-shirts cheap everyone should try and keep there t-shirt designs simple, so that they use less ink.
I also suggest you don't use a wide varitey of colours on the same t-shirt.
by doing this it will costing less to get the t-shirts printed, meaning that you get the t-shirts cheaper!

Well I will try and keep the colours to a minimum when I finalise the tshirt but if people could try and use a minimal number of colours that would be great! :D

@ The Wheel: Nice designs, think you could try and move the address furhter down or possibly to the bottom of the shirt and try it on the other 2 colour templates?
Might also be good to use the rectangular area to show the design of the front of the tshirt bigger! ;)

Well you dont have to use clipart if you dont want to, just draw a simple design in paint or whatever.

Please don't emboss the writing and please dont add drop shadows, remember this is a tshirt.

Simple, yet effective.

My first show (the pisstake one) basically showed everythin that it ought NOT to be.
In my opinion we wont want to be lookin like walkin bigass advertisements, we'll want a cool casual shirt, that will look good at TF parties, and also gets the message across to let people know about our forums, and the link for them to get to it. The colours used don't vary too much, and shouldn't look too bad if they faded a lil as they probably will do, the text will also be easy to see on most standard T shirt colours.

Course it can be modified later, i've kept the origional photoshop files if only small changes are needed. But I think its ok for a basic insight onto how itl look.

I think I would use a plain font for the URL so its readable.

I would probs only use it as the logo part on the tshirt anyway, no matter what people submit. Anyway, I will be adding a design next week because it does not look like any of these tshirts will win and no one seems to really be trying. I jsut want my own tshirt to be going on with.

its not really AS effective because you can't see it, people walking along the street probably wouldn't see it on the arm and it wouldnt be effective. and if you have a jacket on you definitely wouldn't be able to see it, i think thats why most people choose to make it more visible.

- on the back the url is down at the bottom so if your wearing a jumper its possible it will hang bellow it and still show the people behind you
- collage/ unitype deign with little influence off the t-shirt shane showed a couple of posts back .. duno if the greay neck suits or if its possible but if you liek ti i could also go around the end of your sleeves :p

Okay, here goes:

The overal design looks good, I like the 3 things going down the centre of the back of the tshirt but what do they mean? Maybe if you used 3 things with a little more meaning to them and associated soem text with the images.

The colour is fine and I like the idea of having a grey collar but I dont know if this is possible to do, if so it would cost more. Nice idea though, can I see two copies of your next entry? One with the grey on the sleeves as weel as the collar and oen with no grey bits, just plain black.

Try an entry of white and black though, I would like to see the varying contrasts.

You spelt Community wrong and I don't like the typeface you have used for that bit of writing anyway, Try the font you used for the 'Teenage Forums' writing.

Teenage Forums should be Teen Forums - teenageforums is the web address, not the name of the website. Thats Teen Forums.

Use the text 'TeEn Forums' (even with the capital E) in grand stylus for the text at the top.

The TF could do with being a little bit closer, reduce the line spacing between the letters.

Below the TF in the font you used for the URL try adding an EST. 2003 sort of thing, you know what I mean! ;)

Try bringing it all in to look more like an athletic dept. tshirt, everythign is usually just around the area of the chest.

I would like to see all of these with the Grand Stylus font used. ;)

Could you take the icons out of the boxes on the back of the tshirt, I think they would look better on their own and using the colour of their boxes as their own fill.
I also think that it might be better if you were to use an old style arcade pad (think the square snes pad) instead of the gameboy type icon. Try adding it with a wavy bit of wire coming off if you can.

Bring all the front further up to fit in the chest of the tshirt, make the TF fill most of the box, just a little more than it does right now.

Looking really good Matti. Remember to submite different ideas as well.

By the way the grey bits look sick, I hope we can get these on the tshirt no matter what design I choose! :P

it's not great because im still waiting for macromedia studio to arrive, got it for £75 because of school, woohoo.
I will have better tools then, I had to use word and paint for this because I can't work the graphics programme i have now, and it always crashes

I really don't like the red on black look, and why is there a box around TF saying est:2003?

Also, I think that it would be easier for people to see the address if it was in the middle of the back, not the bottom.

one last thing, when there is a white box with the address in it, why is i white? You use one tool on paint to get rid of the background and just use a contrasting color ;)

the botox thing was an annoying, untrue rumour by a complete bastard. having a cushion for a head is a good thing for when you are biking.
but i will stop saying it. even though its a good thing.

And PK ben, good designs, but they are a little too detailed and crowded for a tshirt. for one thing I wouldnt want to wear something that full of detail and big writing etc, and the cost would probably go up for the tshirts, when not as many people would want to buy them because it would feel like a walking billboard. but i like some aspects of them, and think they would work better seperately. though it is up to the judges of course :P

Try using a couple of different colors and remember to not just have 'TF' but 'Teen Forums' instead. ;)

i've started using fireworks, it's got some great features and useful tools, i'm not really sure how to use most of them at all, never mind make good use of the, but i'll see what i can learn, and see if enhancing my designs in that will do any good.

just done a couple of designs in fireworks, they're very similar to one of my original designs, i just polished itup a bit by using fireworks rather than paint, and i think they look much smarter now (not smart as in smart dress lol - there's no bow tie or anything like that)

i stand by what i say about paint, it's good. (i never said it was better than Fireworks, that would be ridiculous! they're on two completely different levels)

paint is good for some stuff, mainly basics, but people would just never use it because they know there's better software out there, but when you just want to do somthing simple, there's nothing wrong with using paint. unless you actually need (and obviously sometimes you will) all the layers and other features then paint's really useful, and simple.

i will be using fireworks a lot more now though, i like it.

all the time i spent colouring in that original t-shirt template because it wasn't purely white, and it looked very sketchy anyway, and i did it in one click tonight lol.

Amazin designs there Ben, plain enough but stylish enough as well.

I like 1 and 4 the best, though the others are good 2.

1 is nice and plain, but gets the message across pretty nice and looks the best.

the piant ones were just my initial designs, i used fireworks for all my recent ones. (even if i had used paint for them all it wouldn't matter because shane stated that it didn't matter how graphically correct they were; users could even submit hand-drawn designs.)

Yeah, selecting certain designs to go through to the 'finals' then announcing the winner 2-3 weeks later after revisions have been made etc..

We will try to make it fair as possible but it stands to reason the more designs you have the more chance the judges will like it.
