Ive found the answer
A chicken and an egg are lying in bed. The chicken is smoking a cigarette with a satisfied smile on its face and the egg is frowning and looking put out. The egg mutters to no one in particular, "I guess we answered that question."

Interesting. Though the actual answer (to the question as it is normally asked...) is the egg. "Chicken" would have evolved from a protochicken-like species, and the new species would have to be offspring from a (likely transitionary) old one, which means it would have to start as an egg.

yeah, that works. evolution would have changed the species before the chicken very slowly untill the egg hatched and became the chicken that we know of today.

Yeah but where in it does its say they ment a chickens egg :P It could mean any type of eggs and dinosaurs where before chickens and they layed eggs!
