View Full Version : How many classes??
Artemis
April 7th '06, 06:18 PM
I have eight blocks/periods in a school day (that is including readblock and band) and my friend Mira (she lives in Northern CA) says that my # of classes is wierd and she only has five.
I think this is not unfair but I'd like to know how many classes (about- on average) people have. (This is including college however I think pertains mostly tp high school).

Six courses this year:
Bio (As I've already taken Physics and Chemistry)
FST (Functions, Stats, and Trig)
Telecom (Required course)
AP US History
AP US Gov
AP English.
Next Year It'll be down to 5:
AP Bio (Double block, hence the dropping of one course slot)
AP English
AP Statistics
Dual Enrollment Hour 1
Dual Enrollment Hour 2
The dual enrollment courses are of course courses taken at a private university.
Though I suppose 5 is a decpetive number as next year I also have AP Comparitive Gov and AP Macroeconomics to take online.

In a day I have 5 lessons.
But, if you're asking about how many subjects I study, it would be a lot.
English. Maths. Biology. Chemistry. Physics. History. Drama. PE. German. RS. IT. Food Tech etc

8 lessons, minus a 20 minute break and a lunch hour.
currently studying for 11 GCSE's, aswell as some other stuff on the side which isn't going to be examined externally. :)

April 13th '06, 03:48 AM
i take 3 subjects, one of them i only have 1 lesson a week though so it barely counts lol
just under half of the week (on average) i get free, but have to be in school
my old school had 6 periods a day, 50mins each, new school has 5 periods, an hour each
lunch is 1:10 - 2:00 which is way too late. it's so if you have a lesson after school, you have effectively 2 lessons, break, 2 lessons, lunch, 2 lessons, home
8 periods a day sounds mad, bri

We have five periods a day, each lasting one hour, except the first lesson, which is an hour and five minutes, as they believe we work better in the morning.
Break is about 15 minutes, and lunch is one hour.
Our structure is:
Registration/Form - Two Classes - Break - One Class - Dinner - Two Classes - Home.
Our timetable works over a two week rota, so everyone gets an equal amount for the subject time needed. This year I'm doing: english, maths, sciences, french, geography, music, history, religious studies, ict, pe.
I think that's about all of them, then next year, I'll probably be doing a short course in citizenship, as I'm taking religious studies a year early to get it out of the way, lol.

7 lessons a day, 5 subjects. I'm doing maths a year ahead though. Going to University at the end of sixth form since 7th form is a complete waste of time.

We have 4 classes a day, and what would be four quarters, but we call them semesters. Each class is an hour and a half long...subtracting the lunch period which is 30 minutes. You have 16 credits you have to earn a year before entering the next grade. In order to get the credit you have to pass the class. Some classes only last one quarter minimum, and some last two quarters max. None of them last all year. So you get a variety. The classes I'll have this year are Biology, 9th Grade PE, Global Studies, German 1, English 1, Insights, Consumer Economics, Algebra 2, Geometry, Business Law, Drivers Ed. I have 5 of those for two different quarters.

In Our school we have 9...
You have certain "requirements" and an order that you have to take in order to graduate...
4 years of english
4 years of gym
3 years of math
3 years of science
3 years of a "History"
2 consecutive years of a lanaguage (meaning at least a I and II)
1 year of Humanities
1/2 year of speech
1 year of visual/ performing arts
1 year of career ed/family life skills.
When it comes to math, you have to take the classes in this order...
Algerbra I, Geometry, Algerbra II, Pre-cal, Calculus
If you want to make it to calculus, you either have to "double-up" in math one of your years, go to summer school, or take Algerbra I in 8th (what I did)
Science Order is...
Bio, Chemistry...then you have the option of taking Physics or Environmental Science.
History order is...
World History, US I, US II
Language...
You have to take 2 years of a consecutive...meaning a Language I then Language II
you cant take spanish I then Latin I...to fill requirements you have to take spanish II/Latin II Any Extra years of a language go towards your "humanities" requirements.
Humanities 1 year...
are basically left-brained electives...aka english, music, Social Studies courses
Visual Performing arts includes...
Band, Art, Chorus, TV production ect.
Career/ Family life...
Foods, sewing, child development
1/2 Speech...
Public speaking class...you have to pass to graduate...
We have a lot of electives that easily fill up requirements...My schedule is as follows...
English 10
Gym/Health
Algerbra II
US History I
Italian II
Chemistry
Band
Music Theory
Lunch (its a full period, everyone has it 5th, 6th, or 7th)
