Hey, recently i have found out that the government and educational authorities have decided to cut out all study leave for GCSE's. It isnt compulsary for these changed to be made yet, but a lot of school including mine have already started this, instead of study leave we are expeted to attend a full day of revision classes.

What do you all think of this?

Forcing the students to over revise wont go good, some people whether they use it constructivly or not find it a nice cooling down time during study leave.

Yes give the students the option to attend revision classes if they wish but compulsory would be stupid.

May 16th '06, 11:10 PM
Yeah an option is always nice because then they could go into school for their weak subjects. If they don't go then tough shit they'll fail imo

Everything you have said makes sence to me I can say that I did not recive any of this week off when I did my exams back in 2002 it aint easy you had to do normal classes right up to the exam days and then the atmostphere as they say right that's it your on your own right.

Beleive me its become easier over the oast few years and soon enough they just do away with the GCSE

Well I have 2 weeks study leave and I am in year 10 :D Woo hoo hoo

But yeah, I think study leave is for studying, therefore anyone who doesn't study, should not have the priveledge of having study leave because they are the ones who are abusing the system and ruining it for the good ones who want and or need to revise.

Luke
May 17th '06, 04:03 PM
Mamfy - no. Be realistic. Everyone will abuse the system. I will not revise one bit. I'm being honest at that. Can't be arssed.

Chris
May 17th '06, 05:03 PM
At the end of the day its up to the student, the ones who want to do well will revise while the slackers will not, simple as that.

I was a bit of both during my GCSE's, but with my A Levels i just cant be arsed, lol.

Mamfy
May 17th '06, 05:23 PM
I am revising for my exams and I'm in year 10.

Gcse's mean something at the time, but when you get to alevels they don't mean much. You can't be arsed with A-levels? They are the most impoirtant! Blimey.

Luke
May 17th '06, 05:27 PM
GCSE's mean fuck all. Employer's won't give them a 2nd glance. What they want to see is some qualifications after compulsory education.

Mamfy
May 17th '06, 05:31 PM
Yeah, that's why I was surprised Chris didn't give acrap about them.

Gcse's are important for jobs at our age now, and also important if you didn't do A levels

Chris
May 17th '06, 05:34 PM
Dont get me wrong, they are important, and i'd hate to have wasted a year of my life doing them, but when compared with GCSE's they are far less important. (Just read the two above posts...guess i was wrong, lol)

GCSE's mean the difference of being a bin man and having a respectable job whereas A Levels just mean that you can have a swankier job and go to Uni.

Plus the pressure is less in my opinion when it comes to A Levels, there are less exams and less subjects (3 or 4 A Levels compared with 11 GCSE's). I am going to revise, but i dont feel pressured to do it.

Mamfy
May 17th '06, 05:36 PM
I* guess you don't feel pressured becxause it was your choice to do them in the first place, right?

Chris
May 17th '06, 05:41 PM
Yeah, i suppose. And because i chose the subjects i actually quite enjoy them (unlike Maths at school *shudder*), so because i'm more interested in them more is 'retained' in my mind, therefore less revision is neccessary.

GCSE's are just qualifications to get you in college, dont be fooled. There not that important. mamfy, your in year 10 and you will be revising during your study leave?!!?! why on earth?! Dont think anyone round here would!

Luke
May 17th '06, 07:14 PM
Or here Pearson. To be fair, people around here wouldn't revise for a fucking masters degree HAHA!

i think its a good idea my GCSE's start on tuesday because i know if i had study leavee i wouldn't revise at all least this way i will get some revision done.. at king edwards they have had 2weeks study leave... ohhh well i finish on friday and my prom is tomorrow night so should be good

i disagree with people saying they ain't important i think they are i mean come on if two people are going for a job and they are the same level of hard work then they are going to give the job to the person with the better GCSE's

If your going for a rubbish job maybe. I mean if your going for something better, there going to look at your degree or Alevels.

GCSE's are the first level to getting a degree or Alevel so they are important

May 17th '06, 07:31 PM
Well Pearsona nd fcuk4forest, I go to a grammar school. Now you may understand.

Also. I revise so I can do well at wschool because I want a law degree, therefore I need to work hard and do well at school so I am able to get into a good university for my career. I have my heart set on that and I will do anything I can to get there.

Luke
May 17th '06, 07:38 PM
I don't really understand, no. I don't understand the differences to a Grammar school and your average state school.

Mamfy
May 17th '06, 07:40 PM
To get into a grammar school you have to take an 11+. That's an exam to attend the school and if you don't pass it, you're not in.

I passed it and have been in it ever since year 7. THey want us to do well, and the school really pushes us. BEcause we are cleverer than average. (and no that wasn't me being big headed about myself, I was talking about the school as a whole)

my school went for this as soon as it had been thought of, we were all dead against it, and then the headteacher came into assembly to announce that we had study leave, we were all gald too hear it, but it turned out that he meant that we would get to break up the week exams started...twat.

i'm on study leave for my ASs now, it's alright. got some lessons still on though, i don't midn too much, could use the extra reviision and it's good still seeing my friends.

Grammer schools are what we call - 'posh schools,'

Nowt wrong with wanting to do well Mamfy, more people should be like you. Good on you in my opinion!

Mamfy
May 18th '06, 01:08 PM
Grammar schools aren't posh schools. We still have some horrible people here. BUt then again you get that wherever you go.

In my opinion, we have to go to school now so why not make the most of it and do your best shot? BEcause I don' want to do it again in my own time or not be able to get a good job.

Some people, like myself, are lazy. It is hard to overcome laziness.

Mamfy
May 19th '06, 06:46 AM
Well that's fair enough. We're all different.

Ahhhhh! Yes grammar school would of gone there myself had I not known that is was an all boy type.

Nah all of you have it wrong, nothing is decided by GCSE's because you can just retake them them as often as you want at college if you fail this time.

The important thing you must realise is that you get a job at what your good at but what you love is what you make your life on. The acedemics are just the key to the door you can have the best grades in the whole country and still get fired. No understand your place. You could start your own company and learn the trick of the trades as you go through that's learning with a difference get an A+ for all your hard work and you'll be set for life. Think any body will but there head down for something like that.

But never think that its the system that you live no it aint you all have your future don't burn yourself out now. College is where you can make yourself from the rubbishman to a great bleeding VIP. It aint over here at this point. Start from foundation and work up through the ranks or bone to thew whole college thing and just study at home. In the interveiw don't ask them to look at your acedemics let them look at your abilities first most will agree and give the chance.

Well I've pratelled on for a while so I bid the adiew
