i think like most of kubricks films it is done well, however i dont think i liked it as much as some of his others. i found the jump from training to war was a bit erratic and the whole movie just didnt sit quite right with me. definately a piece people should see... its definately odd and interesting to watch. but i dont think i enjoyed it.

That was probably the only real flaw. The fact that it skips from the murder/suicide scene to the war without so much as an orientation. Still, it is definately one of the greatest films of our time. It is also important for people too see. At many points it shows how war ruins the lives of others both on and off the battlefield

Platoon is also an excellent film, though Apocalypse Now definately takes the prize for the greatest Vietnam flick.

"Full Metal Jacket" is unquestionally the only Kubrick work which can even touch "A Clockwork Orange". This is clearly the greatest military movie ever made, with every frame of the pre-war sequencing being flawless. Only with onset of the Vietnam scenes does the film begin to decline. It could have easily ended with the 'major malfunction' scene. Still, its a bloody incredible movie which everybody ought to see. I still need to upgrade my remastered VHS to collectors dvd box set.

Great film, the first hour had me laughing constantly, Drill Sergent Hartman is an absolute legend.

"Bull S**t! I bet you could suck golf balls through a garden hose!" LMAO!
