BOY STABBED SCREAMING BABY
A 12-year-old boy stabbed his baby nephew with a kitchen knife when his screaming put him off his PlayStation game.
The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been detained in a secure unit for six months.
He was convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at Hull Crown Court, but cleared of attempted murder.
The court heard the boy stabbed the seven-month-old baby in the stomach with a kitchen knife he had been using to fix one of his toys.
The boy admitted it was the baby's screaming which had made him stab him. He said he felt "like a volcano, an erupting volcano".
The youngster said he had kept "dying" at a particular point in his PlayStation game, The Incredibles, and it made him feel "mad" and "frustrated".
He said when he stabbed his nephew he saw his eyes "open wide like an owl" and he pulled the knife out and hid it.
The baby had come to live with the family after his mother was sectioned and admitted to hospital.
Although the baby suffered life-threatening injuries, he underwent emergency surgery and has made a full recovery.
Judge Mr Mr Justice Silber said at the time of the stabbing the boy's life was in chaos with no support available to him and he was being bullied at school.
